Intentional Parenting
I first read about this over at Jacque's Blog but I liked it so much I thought I would post about it myself. Hopefully, you can tell from some of my posts on training children that my husband and I try to be intentional in raising our children, seeking to raise a godly heritage unto the Lord. Others have told us that they can tell that we are intentional in our child rearing and I pray that is so.
Our goal is to not only raise godly children but to have a generational outlook. What does this mean? It means to raise godly children who will in turn raise up our grandchildren to be godly and in turn raise our great grandchildren to be godly etc. We do not merely focus on the present but the future generations also. We are to aid in teaching the future generations the ways of the Lord. We are to be deliberate and purposeful in our parenting. This takes a lot of work and is not an easy task or even an easy outlook. Yet, it is what God calls us as parents to do. Deuteronomy 4:8-10 Scripture is our child rearing handbook. We must know what is in there in order to be able to apply it. I would like to encourage each of us to read and know the Word and what God tells us about raising a godly seed.
So I pose this question as something for each of us to reflect upon. What kind of parent are you? Are you a survival parent? A default parent? An intentional parent?
I would encourage you to visit the following link and see which category you fall into and to evaluate your parenting. After all, even the best of parents need to constantly be evaluating and reevaluating to be sure we are fulfilling our call to raise up a godly seed. Please visit Intentional Parents.
