While visiting the local Christian bookstore I stumbled across a true and rare gem. Being the mother of a teenager, one who likes music a lot, I am finding that just because something is sold in the Christian bookstore and the artist has some Christian music does not mean you can always trust what is on the shelves. There are many artists today who for the sake of "trying to draw in the unbeliever" have taken Christ out of their music. They are trying to appeal to the world and thus the message in their music is watered down if even there at all. We have been having this discussion with our son concerning a particular CD and having him evaluate the words. On his own he decided it was not a CD that was really honoring to the Lord. I know the arguement many will make because I have heard it many times before. It goes something like this: non-believers will like the music and seek out that artist and in return as they stumble across the artist's other albums and learn more about him will hear the Gospel thus committing their life to the Lord. Now is this possible? YES, sure it is, but what else will they learn?? They will learn that it is okay to look like the world. But as Christians we are not to look like the world we are to look like Christ, holy and set apart, not just good moral people but godly people. We are to be a peculiar people. We are to look different.

DISCLAIMER:
1. I realize no one is perfect and we are continually growing and are not instantly going to look like Christ. (I myself know I still have a long way to go)
2. I am not against Christian bookstores even though I have some issues with them but that is for another post.
3. I am not against contemporary Christian music in fact I listen to a lot of it.

Okay back to my point......That true and rare gem! :0)

I stumbled across this CD labled Sons of Korah and it was cheap so I bought it and absolutely fell in love with it. The Sons Of Korah sing only the Psalms! The psalms were originally written as songs and they were intended to be used. They have a role in the spiritual life and they perform this role as songs. The best way to meditate on God’s word is to use music and indeed this was one of dominant original purposes of the Psalms. Sons of Korah invite their listeners to discover, through their music, the way in which the psalms can impact our lives today.
